Question

Illustrator won't autosave even if I enabled the feature

Hello! I just lost about 4 hours and a half of work and I really, really need it since the deadline of the assignment is about 3 hours from now. I'm still in denial that I won't get it back (although I know that the chances of me getting it back are in the negatives), so I thought I might as well just postpone my breakdown and be productive and ask why the autosave isn't working? I searched the file where it should appear for more than 4 times and I genuinely can't find it.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to answer this!

4 hours work without any saving? Try to make it a habit to save preiodically. The Auto-Recovery function may not always work reliably. It often turns itself off when working in complex documents (for example when many effects are applied to your paths). Usually there is a pop-up for a few seconds that informs you that the auto-recovery is being turned off for this document. Maybe you didn't see it.

Don't just save regularly (at least every half hour). Save to a NEW file name, because saving can go wrong and leave you with neither the old file, nor the new. This is a pain, but you need to know (and have perhaps learned from this assignment) that this sort of pain is normal and will happen regularly, but you can make it less painful with CONSTANT backups.

Illustrator does not have an autosave function.

You need to save your work yourself regularely.

What you probably refer to is the autosave of recovery data, which can be used in case of a crash.

But even that can turn off when the document is complex.
