Image trace from a PDF

Community Beginner ,

I have an image drwan on paper then scanned in as a PDF. When I bring it into Illustrator and do Object>Trace Image it doesn't see the image from what I can tell. Do I need to bring into PS and convert to JPEG or PNG? Any other steps beyond that please let me know:)

Thanks!

Ben

"Bring it in" means what?

Did you embed it? In that case the image should be in Illustrator and all you need to do would be to release a myriad of clipping masks.

You could try changing your scanned output to Jpeg or PNG. In which case you would not need Photoshop.
