Image Trace vs. Live Trace

Hi.

It seems like there were so many more options, and more options for detail in Live Trace (AI CS 5.1) than there are in AI CS 6 Image Trace.  First off the image trace panel is ONLY in the 32 bit version which makes it difficult to create a custom trace in the 64-bit version, or at least I haven't figured out how to do it.  The custom option is usually grayed out until you choose one of the default options and change its parameters but that seems only possible in the 32-bit AI panel.

Can someone offer a link which describes best tracing methods in this new version of Illy?

Thanks in advance.

Hi markerline,

I checked, and I was able to use the Image Trace panel in the 32- and 64-bit versions of Illustrator CS6. Could I ask you to have a look at the 64-bit version again? To open the Image Trace panel, click Windows > Image Trace.

Kinda off-topic, but I noticed that when I open an image in the 64-bit version, no object is selected. Consequently, the Image Trace > Make or the Image Trace > Make and Expand options were disabled. I had to click and select an object, for the options to become enabled.

Cheers,

David

In addition to your correct answer I must say thank you for that but I also had to figure out some additional options which are different than the previous tracing options in CS5.1 and below .  I guess I came to the conclusion that it is possible to create a good trace by manipulating the stroke, threshold, and a couple of other parameters.  Once an image is selected the panel does come up, yes.  It's strange though because I thought I had an image selected previously but I guess it was just an image residing on my artboard and not one that was actually selected with the black arrow.
