Hi all...
Have a small but bugging problem. I use AI (CC 2016/7) maximised - Windows 10. Have the various panels docked on the right. Problem is that the layers panel (bottom) gets pushed / extended outside the window. Result is that all the options at the bottom are hidden. Dragging it out, resizing and putting it back doesn't help.
Any ideas?
TIA,
Cheers...

Have you tried resetting your workspace to Essentials? You can go to the menu Window > Workspace > Essentials (or down to Reset Essentials) or through the drop down menu on the top right to access the workspaces there.

Hi Myra...
Doesn't help as Essential (default) doesn't have 'Layers' as a panel...
Anyway, the scene is this... I've customised my workspace, with the Layers panel docked at the bottom. What happens is that the moment I expand one of the panels above - say the Stroke Panel - it pushes the bottom of the Layers Panel below the window. Now, I can't access the options / tools at the bottom of the Layers Panel. Only option is to drag it out, resize it and then dock it back. A PIA. Resetting the workspace means that whatever configuration is open disappears (reverts to saved workspace..). again. a PIA.
I would have no hassle if the Layers Panel compressed. But no, it goes off the window.
Am I missing something?
Cheers,

Hmm... would you post a screenshot? I ask because I'm not sure why the Layers panel would get pushed down when you open another panel if they are all docked. The expected behavior would be that the Layers panel would close when you open the other panel. The closest I can get to reproducing the bottom of the Layers panel going off the screen is if I float a group of panels (and I am also on the most recent version of Illustrator on Windows 10). Even at that, I can still move the title bar or drag the tab of one of the other panels to group more than one of the panels together which exposes the bottom of the Layers panel.
Also, if you've customized your workspace, have you tried moving the Layers panel to the top? And have you saved your custom workspace? I would say if it gets wonky, then you could reset it back to how you customized it.

Hi Myra...
Attached are two screenshots.
1. Panel 01 shows the Layers Panel with the trash can etc., at the bottom of the panel.
2. Panel 02 shows the Layers Panel 'pushed' down outside the window. None of the tools at the bottom are now available. No trash can, no new layer icon... nothing.
BTW, 01 was the saved workspace. For 02 all I did was click the 'Show Options' on the Strokes Panel to expand it.
Panel 01 - default workspace.
Panel 02 - Layers Panel 'pushed' out of window...

Your panels appear to be docked to each other but are still a floating group of panels. I say that because the collapsed vertical group of panels in your screenshot does not extend all the way down your screen. If you dock these panels to the edge of your screen, you'll see a different behavior when your open panels have content that makes what needs to displayed longer than your available screen real estate. When the panels float, the content gets pushed off the screen. When it's docked to the edge, a panel will collapse so that only the tab is visible and the expanded panels' content fits vertically. If you click on Layers tab at that point, the options are visible at the bottom.

I realised that but just couldn't get them (the panels) to dock. Anyway, rather than batting around interminably, I used an existing template and re-customised it. All well now. But still can't figure out why the panels wouldn't dock.
Many thanks for your time.
Cheers and hope you have a great weekend!

Hi,
You may just try to use the panels collapsed. Only expand the one u will use.
Hope this helps.
Best.

Thank You! This was making me crazy - especially in files with a lot of layers. I'm using an older monitor with a lower resolution and it messed up my floating panels in CC. I docked/collapsed my layers panel, expanded it and readjusted the size in order to see the bottom. I popped it back out and now it's fine.
