Question

Mouse lags while selecting objects in Illustrator 2019 on Windows 10 system

I've gone through a number of other posts about this issue, and unfortunately none of the previous solutions have worked for me.

Every time I select an object with my mouse, I get about 2-5 seconds of lag where the entire program locks up. Occasionally it will also make Illustrator go black for a second almost as though there's a graphical error. There is also often a one-second lag when I undo something. Obviously this is a big issue for my workflow, but it's only showing up in Illustrator. I use After Effects, Audition and Photoshop without any issues like this.

I've tried turning off and on GPU but it doesn't make a difference. I've also tried turning off pixel snap, re-installing, and most of the other things like optimizing windows.

I'm working with a GTX Titan X, 64 gigs of ram, an SSD, Intel i7-6850K and I'm at a loss as to what to do next.

I'd be happy to post a video of the issue as it happens, I just don't know if it's alright to post links here.

The problem may be an incompatibility or conflict with another application. Do you have any applications installed that control the mouse?

Have you tried using a different mouse?

I just have your standard issue logitech mouses, but I tried swapping them out and got no changes unfortunately. The closest thing to a mouse-related program I have is a keyboard program called Razer Synapse, but I'm pretty sure that only interacts with my keyboard.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. I am hopeful that the issue is resolved by now. If not, please try the steps shared here: Improve Illustrator performance on Windows and let us know if that helps.

If not, try resetting Illustrator preferences manually:

  • Close all Adobe applications.
  • Go to Locations C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Adobe and.
  • Rename  Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Illustrator 23 Settings folders to Adobe Illustrator.old and Adobe Illustrator 23 Settings folders.old
  • Launch Illustrator from the Creative Cloud.

Looking forward to your response!

Regards,

Srishti
