Old Style Figures with Truetype Baskerville

Our company is switching to Baskerville, but the cut that comes with the Mac OS & WIN (so  everyone  outside our company can open our files). They want us to use old style figures and ligatures. They also want this setup with templates so that people will not forget to turn on ligatures and old style figures.

Truetype

  • We cannot access the old style figures any easy way that can be captures in style sheets. We could write an action with find font, but that is an extra step most people will forget. Since this is truetype, am guessing the opentype panel option is not working on the font, as you can see I have that enabled for both fonts.

Opentype

  • Sadly the opentype versions of New Baskerville does not even have ligatures. Even if it did, they would prefer for us to go with the font that comes with the OS.

Anyone have any suggestions of how to set truetype old style figures with Baskerville???

    Ah, the fairest font.

    Mike,

Would it be too silly to use a template document with a non printing top layer bearing a watermark like (Remember) Old Style Fiugures (maybe written in Small Caps) to remember the action?

That would work for people with a true typography passion and understanding how the opentype panel works along what+ ligatures and old style figures. Many of our designers come from design schools, and that not always but often means that choose a profession that was easy and fun.

Have done 2 lunch and learns in 3 years on this exactly, unfortunately they cannot remember this and we have a dozen new hires each year, so need a foolproof solution.

I suppose it's better to choose another typeface.

I cannot even see the fi ligature on the Mac (in Illustrator).

Recommending another typeface is the best suggestion I have. Would hope they would come to me first before making such a choice.

We have V2.035 of ITC New Baskerville Std which doe into have ligatures but the cerise on my fonts does.

ITC New Baskerville Std Roman - Glyphs « MyFonts.  The TTC versions though has many more character options, and just seems a shame the opentype panel will not work with TTC fonts I am finding.
