Hi there,

Sorry about the crashing. I would request you to share a few more details like:

  • OS and version of Illustrator
  • Does Illustrator seem to crash after performing a particular action?
  • Do you get any missing plugin error message while launching Illustrator? If yes, share a screenshot of it.
  • Is the issue happening while opening a specific document? If yes, could you please share a sample document, including linked files, with us? You can upload it to the Creative Cloud (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/share.html) and share the download link.
  • Where are you saving the files (Network Drive/ System HDD/ Shared Folder on System/ External HDD)?
  • When did this start happening? Are there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, system updates, or web extensions installed recently.
  • Does resetting Illustrator Preferences (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/illustrator/using/setting-preferences.html) help to resolve the issue?
Disclaimer: Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. Location is mentioned in the article.

Looking forward to your response.

Regards,

Anshul Saini

Hi Anshul,

Thank you for getting back to me. The answers to your questions are:

Versions:
Illustrator 24.4.1 /

  • OS and version of Illustrator - Illustrator 25.4.1 / Mac OS Catalina
  • Does Illustrator seem to crash after performing a particular action? - No, its just general design work
  • Do you get any missing plugin error message while launching Illustrator?- No, its only ever when opening a recovered doc after a crash
  • Where are you saving the files (Network Drive/ System HDD/ Shared Folder on System/ External HDD)? They are saved locally on my machine, system HDD
  • When did this start happening? Are there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, system updates, or web extensions installed recently. - This has happened a handful of times for about 2 months, but twice now in the last week. I cant think of any changes to my system that might have caused this.
  • Does resetting Illustrator Preferences (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/illustrator/using/setting-preferences.html) help to resolve the issue? I have not tried this - will do this now and see if it makes any changes.

Thanks,

Sarah

Thank you for sharing the details. Could you please confirm if this is happening with some specific documents or with all the documents? Also, let us know how it goes after resetting the preferences.

Anshul Saini
