Paste is grayed out in Illustrator's Edit menu

Hi,
Let me put it simply :

I start a new document. I draw a rectangle.

Edit < Copy

Edit ... oh my god ... Paste is greyed out  (so are its little cousins like paste in front, place, back ...)

Ctrl - C    Ctrl - V    : no effect  ...

It happened suddenly ...   is it a bug or am I bugging?

... one more detail :  If I restart Illustrator ... draw a rectangle, Ctrl -c   Ctrl -v  ... a new rectangle appears.
I try again, no effect : Paste is greyed out ...

If it returns:

do you have a clipboard extension installed in your system?

which other applications are running? web browsers and some antivirus might interfere.

If it works correctly after you reboot when you run Illustrator first...and later it starts failing again...that may confirm what Monika mentions: Another application may be interfering with Illustrator. Often it's a browser extension, or antivirus software as Monika suggests.

Thanks for reaching out. I understand that Paste was greyed out. These issues generally occur when the preferences are corrupt or if there a conflict with some third-party application as suggested by above.

If this happens again, please try resetting preferences for Illustrator (How to set preferences in Illustrator ) and let us know if this fixes the issue.

Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. Location is mentioned in the article.
