Question

Place Illustrator images in word document

Hello,

I've created some images and graphs in illustrator and I would like to place them into a word document.  I've tried two ways:

1) Save the file as a pdf then drag it into the word document

2) print the file as a pdf then drag it into the word document

The files show up in the word document, but I loose alot of resolution doing this, and when I print the word document these images look terrible.  If I print the illustrator file directly then it prints just fine.  Is there any way for me to keep the illustrator resolution while still putting it in a word document?

Thanks.

Still ... don't drag or paste to place graphics, that reduces quality and choice in some apps.

    You have to do this:

Illustrator → Export → Windows Meta File (.wmf)

I'm still having issues using this and have seen other forums as well.

Is there a particular size/pixel for best results?

This is an old post. Since then Microsoft has updated their software and now works better with .pdf files imported into word an what i would recommend export form Illustrator. You can still use .ef if you like, but when posting please let us know what you have tried already, and what exact software versions you are working with.

With these vector capable format pixels are not an issue, as the vector graphics always print at the highest resolution fo your printer.

Keep a backup of you original file in .ai format, so as nto to lose layers

Illustrator >> Export >> Windows Meta File (.wmf)

Insert picture the .wmf into word.

.wmf is a vector format developed by Microsoft

File > Export. Use PNG at 300 ppi with antialiasing off. Keep the Illustrator file for changes.

Save as .jpg or .png and INSERT image (insert imageobject from file _ my MS Word is Swedish so have no idea what it says in an English version) into the Word-file. Not by drag and drop.
