My printer needs an AI file type. I'm used to preflighting in InDesign by clicking "package"-- what's the best way to package a final file in Illustrator CS5?

Have you ever tried this?: To pack Fonts in Illustrator, COPY the Illustrator design* and PASTE it into InDesign.

    * if the design is very complex, you may copy in little groups, or InDesign will convert it to EPS.

Then PACKAGE the file and you have all used fonts in a folder. Delete de .indd file and attach the .ai one and the Images you used.

    Hi rachelvp,

Where I work, we develop and publish the software FlightCheck. This stand-alone application can not only package all used fonts, images and artwork, but will also preflight the Illusrtrator CS5 files (and all other versions as well), warning you of potential problems as well. Furthermore, will do the same for Photoshop, InDesign, etc, etc too. Here is how it works:

This collection utiltiy works the best, and is well worth the small fee if you need to package .ai files on a regualr basis.

Otherwise you will haev to do thsi manually by using link palette for fonts, adn if you have suitcase you can use that to collect the fonts, by the menu added to Illustrator i Belive is under type.

Thanks for spreading the word, Mike. As you mentioned, Art Files is a very straight-forward way to package and collect artwork for Adobe Illustrator files. Here's a quick how-to video. It's compatible with Illy files from 8-CC (v17.0).
