Peter,

Sorry, I forgot to say ShiftClickDrag with the Direct Selection Tool, starting with the rectangle deselected.

Peter,

I am afraid it is impossible to create a trapezium/trapezoid with an odd number of right angles, such as 1 or 3.

So you will have to settle for 2 or 4, the latter also being a rectangle, as the one you are starting with.

One simple way to get a non rectangular trapezium with one unchanged leg is to ShiftClickDrag one of the Anchor Points of the other leg horizontally so the leg will become longer and slanting, and one one the bases will beome shorter (if you drag towards the other Anchor Point) or longer (if you drag away from the other Anchor Point).

Was this sufficiently unintelligible?
