Saving a workspace in Illustrator

Community Beginner ,
Nov 28, 2017 Nov 28, 2017

The option of saving a Workspace is gone.

I've seen many threads with instructions on saving a Workspace in previous versions.

I know it was cool wasn't it?

Just like saving a swatch library (that was a swatch library and not an AI file).

But the option is apparently gone.

This is not groovy at all, and seriously damaging my calm.

Every time I update I've got to setup a new Workspace.

I have even gone to Presets\....Workspaces and the Workspace I've created is not even in that folder.

Where my Workspaces is?

Thanks for the reply.

I'm comfortable with naming my Workspace.

What I was looking for is a way to export the Workspace for those special times that Illustrator gets buggy.

And behold, there it be.

in AppData\Roaming. I was in Presets\....Workspaces.

Again thanks much.

You can save custom workspaces in Illustrator CC 2018:

Once you have everything set up the way you like it go to the Workspace pull-down and select "New Workspace". You will be given the chance to name your workspace whatever you want. Custom workspaces, however, become part of Illustrator's preference files and will disappear if you have to trash your preferences or create new ones when the program gets updated. In the case of the former scenario I suggest keeping a copy of your preference folder when it is newly minted so that if you are forced to trash corrupt preferences you can replace the bad one with one that is pristine. In the latter scenario of an upgrade it is best to redo your preferences, including workspaces, from scratch as it has been shown that using preferences from an earlier version impede the program's performance.

You can find the preference folders at the following locations:

Macintosh: Home Folder>Library>Preferences>Adobe Illustrator <#> Settings

Windows: C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator [version number]\ Settings\<Language>.
