Shear problems

I created a file a few days ago with text on it. I sheared it to make the slanted text straight up and down without problems. I played with shapes and sheared, no problem. Yesterday all of a sudden I can't shear anything. To be clear, I'm going up to the menu and clicking on Transform - Shear. Or right-clicking and doing the same thing. However, I can use a bounding box for a shape only (not text) and use the CTRL key and skew one side only. Initially my purpose was to play and learn. But now I'm working on something with text and need this specific text to skew upright. Is it possible I've locked something? I have the CC version in case you need to know.

Thanks for your help,

Denise

Please show a screenshot of your artwork.

The layer panel should be there as well, layers opened.

Absolutely! Here's a screenshot. Thanks! I just put up new text instead of my old one because it has a lot of stuff on it. But this is actually 2 different fonts. No matter if I put the text separate or together, it won't shear. Neither will shapes like a rectangle.

Thanks!
