Shift-option-drag only working if I option-drag then press shift

I used to be able to press all of them at once and it would duplicate and move in line, but now if I press shift-option and drag all at once, it deselects everything. I have to make sure to only press option while dragging at first, then after dragging press shift. I'm on Illustrator 24.2.3 and have noticed this since the past few updates

In my experience the important thing is to get the mouse button down before pressing shift. If the shift button comes before the mouse, a selected object will be deselected unless, as you say, it is dragged with option pressed. Shift + click is the standard deselection method, and the option key does not affect it. The reverse order, click + shift, does not deselect. Starting with multiple objects selected I cannot replicate "everything" being deselected, only the object actually clicked on.

Let me know if this is not clear. Or if it doesn't help!

This helped, thank you! I didn't have this issue prior, but I was using a couple year old version before. Will keep this advice in mind 🙂
