The skew text option in Illustrator seems to have been replaced with a character rotation option? What happened to the skew option? I need to fake ital one word in the middle of a sentence. InDesign still has this feaure. Where did it go? Please help! I dont want to convert this text to outlines or have to drop a different text block on top of the existing one.

Yes, InDesign (Photoshop as well) does provide it. Illustrator has never allowed it.

You would need to split up the sentence to extract the word that needs the fake italics, then within the transform panel, there is a skew option that you can use. Or alternately, you can use the skew tool. Either way, your text remains live.  Otherwise, I would suggest choosing a font that provides an italic option.

Hi Scott,

Thanks for reaching out. Regarding how to Skew a text in Illustrator, I found a helpful article. You can refer to the article here: https://www.shutterstock.com/support/article/how-to-skew-text-in-illustrator

Let us know if this helps or if you need any further assistance.

Rishabh, the instructions in the article you are referring to won't help in this matter since Scott is going to "fake ital one word in the middle of a sentence".

It only works in conjunction with entirely selected type objects.

Probably you are confusing something since this Skew option has never been there in Illustrator's Character palette.

Thanks, Kurt.
I guess I'm mis-remembering and the feature only exists in InDesign.
