I am trying to globally change stroke widths and am noticing that strokes created by the pen tool are thinner than when they are created by the brush tool when the same size stroke is applied. See Attached.
I am running Mac OS BigSur (11.5) and AI 2021 (25.3.1)
If there is no brush applied to the Pen Tool stroke (basic) the line weight will be as wide as the stroke value you have chosen. The Brush Tool will apply whatever brush is chosen at its defined size (size at creation) when the stroke is set to 1pt. In other words, a calligraphic brush defined as 5pt round will be 5pt wide when applied at 1pt, and 10pt wide when the stroke is set to 2 pt. An art brush or pattern brush at a setting of 1pt will be as wide as its original artwork was when the brush was created.
If you want the Brush Tool to produce a line that is 1pt wide you must apply a 1pt stroke to a 1pt brush (or a .5pt stroke to a 2pt stroke) — the Brush Tool always applies a brush. Otherwise, use the Pencil Tool at the desired stroke weight with no brush applied.
