Tabs panel not aligning to zero

Community Beginner ,

Hi everyone!

I'm making a little tabbed Nutritional Information panel, but when I click the magnet icon ()  to align it to the box, it misaligns a long way to the left (see screenshot below, showing edge of text box and the large misplacement). What might be causing this?

Thanks,

Tim

Nutritional Panels, a speciality of mine, would love to help you.

Can you please post a dropbox link to the file? We also need to know what version of Ilustraror you are using and OS.

Works fine on the Mac, maybe resetting your preferences will help.

Hi Tim,

Same here on Mac your sample file worked fine for me.

Actually had a job today where that happened to me on a NF panel. This happens to me occasionally and I just move over the tabs panel when the magnet does not snap correctly, though would be nice if the magnet icon always worked. Went back into the same file now, and is working fine.

I did get this to act up, when I pulled a corner out, then clicking the magnet put the tabs palette as shown below. But after I used convert anchor tool and pulled out again could not replicate, as was working fine again.

I do not think this problem is with a specific OS or Illustrator version as have seen this since atleast Illustrator 8.

There is s similar problem I started seeing since CC2013 with for example selecting a logo or group, and the bounding box shown is off, and using Object >> transform >> reset bounding box does not fix. Restarting Illustrator seems to be the best option for that issue, and would suggest that for your tabs palette not snapping.

This one may be hard to solve, as I believe this will be hard to reproduce.

I had the exact same problem and, as I've found out with a lot of screen positioning problems since I started using Win10, it has to do with the "zoom" function of the OS.

Are you using it by any chance? It needs to be at 100% as it would seems Illustrator uses "relative" positioning without considering the right %, which probably messes it. You'll also need to logout(?)/restart for the change to take effect in Illustrator.

Encounter the same issue as original poster as well (both on my own file and on his demo.ai)

The magnet does not align properly (it does in my InDesign), anyone found a solution?
