Question

The filter produced no results = Pathfinder not dividing.

I'm stuck on this, every time I try the divide tool, here is the result... nothing!

I have scanned my drawing and done live trace to get outlines that I can drop colour behind and this has been very successful in the past. Is there a solution that anyone can help me with?

Please

it seems that there is nothing to divide, no intersected paths are selected. If your image is a result of LiveTrace then you don't need to use Divide, you can just select and delete white and green shapes and create the colored background rectangle behind your drawing.

Or you can just fill the white shapes by background color if you plane to transform composition as the whole.

Thanks Anna, for your attention. I have selected an intersecting path between the sax and drums. The green is there to show me where the transparent areas are, I want that green everywhere behind the black outlines.

You can just delete the white shape there. Live Trace has already divided all objects.

The filter does not work because these objects actually do not intersect, there is a hole in the black object under the white one.

There is no "Divide Tool" so please tell us step by step what you are doing.

Also: What do you expect to happen? Get the white out of the drawing? In that case you could try and just select all the white shapes and delete them.

Or maybe not trace them in the first place ("Ignore white" setting)

Thanks Monika for your time, much appreciated. I am trying to have a clear background with black outlines only and therefore drop colour behind and I don't want those colours to adhere to the outlines.
