I have CS5 & my Illustrator crashes every time I open it. I had a newer version on my computer for work at one point, which corrupted all of my files & now the program crashes every time I open it even though the newer version is no longer installed. I've tried calling Adobe & I always get stuck on this stupid forum, which gets me nowhere. I need them to give me a new version of adobe illustrator, as I do not want to have to uninstall & reinstall the entire creative suite. To make it more frustrating, I don't have access to my original discs I used to install in the first place & the other programs work fine. This happens to be the program I need the most & this has been going on for years. Very, very frustrating & hindering to my professional development. This was not a cheap investment & I've literally been not able to use it for YEARS!!! I want my money & time back.

If you have (only) saved documents in a later version instead of (also) downsaving them to CS5, you may have some serious issues with the contents.

You may consider downloading CC as a trial or just for a month or two (at the one month rate) and perform downsaving.

And you may consider a full reinstallation using download (remember to update):

A) Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences),

B) Run the Cleaner Tool, and

C) Reinstall.
