Unsupported color Mode

Hello,

Complete panic.  When I try to open my original .ai I am getting a "Unsupported color mode or depth. Only RGB, CMYK,grayscale and Bitmap are supported."  I saw a post previously that you get this message when importing .tiffs.  I never received this message when I created the file in illustrator, but now trying to open it the next day it won't let me.  I tried to update all the links and convert to cmyk thinking that might do it, but still can't any ideas?

Signed utter distress

The file has 4 artboards that is comprised of placed images mostly .jpeg and .tiffs, some text, no spot colors or effects.

Can you open the file when you hide those links from Illustrator (move the linked files somewhere else)?

Please tell us everything about your system and version

and of course about that file. What's in it? Did you edit it somewhere else?

On a Pc and its the latest Illustrator CC. Its an .ai file. I built it using the same version of the file on the same computer so it hadn't been edited anywhere else.
