Why does drop shadow effect freeze illustrator 2019?

Hi.

Will appreciate any insight on how to deal with this.

Every time I try to use the drop shadow effect in illustrator 2019 the application freezes and the only way is to force quit.

It started a few days ago even though I've been using it fine since I updated to 2019.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled, still nothing.

Please help.

Thanks!

Correct answer Monika Gause

Now that I think about it, I just installed the new macOS Mojave a few days ago.

Could that be it?

Do I have to uninstall it?

Thanks guys.

Illustrator CC 2019 does work with Mojave.

But updating the system might always irritate application software.

You could try if resetting the preferences helps.

https://helpx.adobe.com/si/illustrator/using/setting-preferences.html  (try renaming the folder as that can be reverted)

But maybe you need to uninstall, run the Adobe Cleaner tool and reinstall.

Do the following as a test.

1. Create new illustrator document

2. Make a simple circle with a blue fill

3. Apply drop shadow

Does it freeze?

Usually freezing on things like drop shadows and blurs are a memory issue and are related to file size/resolution.

Let me know if the simple test works or freezes like your original document.

Thanks Dax.

Yes, it does. I just tried a new document with a simple circle and it froze.

What else could be the issue?

Thanks so much.

Okay.. well that rules out file size issues. have you checked your raster settings for the drop shadow effect? Same effect if you drop it down to 72dpi?
