Why is the black selection arrow not escalating or rotating objects?

Hi, I'm using Illustrator to make a flyer, but at a certain point the selection arrow wouldn't escalate proportions or rotate objects. I've been doing this using the object menu, but I'd really like to fix this.

    Sounds like the Bounding Box got turned off. Try the toggle Cmd(Ctrl)-Shift-B.

    From the menu View>Show/Hide Bounding Box. The keyboard sequence I gave will toggle back and forth between the choices.
