I really, really want to print as a PDF with my MAC. I have been using AI for many years professionally and when I use a PC I have this option. On the MAC, it is not available. I love being able to print a PDF so that someone can proof it as a lower file size. I like that it quickly flattens layers and reduces the file size to make it easier to email. It also speeds up being able to "save" these files by printing to a specific "PDF" folder that I send out. I can then have my AI folder of live, editable files and one for general proofing or sending. By saving as PDF it adds steps and the files remain large. If I save as a PDF then realize I need to edit something I then have to close out the PDF version and open up the AI version. It sucks. Please don't tell me to then open it in Acrobat and reduce the files size. Why oh why can't I do this?
Is this an Adobe failure or a MAC failure. Who do I remain unhappy with?

If you really want to print to PDF on a Mac, then you will have to install a PDF printer on the Mac.
But printing PDF for sending them to offset printing is not advisable anymore.

Thank you. Yes. I would never send a PDF to be produced. We have our own internal print department anyway and they know where to retrieve our production files which are either EPS or AI. Why can't I print using adobe PDF though? I pay so much monthly for the full suite and this function doesn't work. I'd hate to buy something else.

Apple broke it. They took out the ability for Adobe to offer Adobe PDF printer round about Mac OS 10.7, or maybe before. Use Acrobat. I know you don't want to hear it, but that's what it's for.
