Add drop shadow to text box, not text

I want to add a drop shadow to an entire text box, not the text inside it. But I haven't been able to figure it out. Everything I do puts the drop shadow on the text, not the text frame.

Thanks for the help!

Fill the text frame with white/paper (or another color—not None)

Then add the shadow to the object in the Effects panel. (Use the fx button at the bottom.)
