Adding a new chapter to an already-designed book (InDesign)

What is the most efficient way to add a new Chapter 2 to a book that is already fully designed with 19 chapters? I have footnotes that need to sync with existing endnotes as well. Should I begin a new section and drop in the text from Word? Or copy and paste from the Word doc to after the last line of the chapter that will come before?

The book has only four sections: front matter, end matter, chapters 1-6, and chapters 7-19. I have chapter-opening master page spreads with full-page bleed images and hand-designed pull quotes in each chapter and would, of course, hate to have to reflow and reformat the entire book. Will the footnotes add themselves in order to the endnotes with the option of converting footnotes to endnotes? (Which I did already when the book was originally designed.) Will the rest of the document move forward with all of its existing formatting and update page numbers as it goes along?

Thanks for any suggestions. Must finish this weekend!

Are all text frames threaded in the document with chapters 1-6 ?

Note:

You can break a thread of text frames with the script BreakTextThread.jsx in:

Scripts panel > Community

If you are using the Book feature, the most efficient way is to add the chapter to the Book panel and update everything else. You didn't say if you are.
