Hello,
I am attempting to complete a school assignment using indesign.
Step 1 asks me to use the pen tool to create an anchor point
Step 2 asks me to deselect all, choose direct selection tool, point in frame then select the anchor point.
However, when I attempt step 2 I cannot find the anchor point I created. It vanishes after I deselect all. I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

If you haven't already, try to click-drag-release the mouse as opposed to clicking and hoping you hit the right spot. In doing this you are basically dragging out a selection area. Be aware that anything within the rectangular area that you drag out will be selected. Hope it helps.

When you are drawing does the path have a stroke color assigned? If the Fill and Stroke are set to none you wont see the path when it is not selected (you can still use Select All).
This line has its stroke color set to [None], and will not be visible when it is deselected unless I hover over it with the Selection tool
This will show even when deselected because of the applied stroke
