Hi, I want to make an animated infographic with buttons that use fade in/fade out to show/hide text boxes directly in front of and behind each other (see attached). I can't figure out how these buttons and animation features work in InDesign. Thanks!

If you're planning a PDF stop right now. You'll never get this to work satisfactorily. If you're going for fixed layout epub or publish online, you'll want to do this with a multi state object instead.

Epub/publish online was the plan. So, how do I accomplish this with multi-state objects?

Do you want to move and fade each button? Here is link to demonstrate in Publish Online 2 buttons that will just fade in and out.

Thank you so much! I'm starting to get this stuff. Now I need to make a button like the one in the image attached. I have the button and the shadow behind it as separate paths, but if there's a way I could better/more easily achieve this look and function, I'd appreciate your letting me know. Thanks!

Some of things you show in your screen capture "97" are not possible, and are not practical for Publish Online. Interactive element cannot have transparent effects like the shadow behind inner hexagon. Here is link that demonstrates rollover effect, then when clicked will hide and show a second interactive object. Note: in my example, the white hexagon is not an interactive element, and can have transparency applied: Inner Glow + Drop Shadow
