Auto Rotate when printing pages

Is there a way of auto rotating pages to fit the same as there is in illustrator. I want to automate batch printing and would like the pages to autorotate to fit the best on an A4 when printing, this is available in illustrator.

Would it be possible for you to print from Acrobat?

There is an "auto-rotate" option in the Print Dialog.

I'd agree with Eugene. Acrobat has always had stronger printing features than InDesign, and most people I know prefer to print from Acrobat rather than InDesign since we usually make PDFs for packaging for output, sharing, archiving, etc.

Yes sir, I one of such people. Never do print from InDesign, except for reading text. InDesign have many bugs with graphic/transparency/etc when print from ID directly. Only hardcore - only Acrobat Pro for printing.

Remember, never say you can't do something in InDesign, it's always just a question of finding the right workaround to get the job done. © David Blatner

I have lots of Indesign files and want to batch them into PDFs but need each page to rotate if necessary to maximise the print area depending on which image is sent.

If you export to PDF as you are doing - then printing from the PDF will organise this for you.

Am I missing something?

I have 20 Indesign documents, I use a batch process script to create PDFs, the script will open up an InDesign document, apply a PDF export setting of my choosing and then create a PDF. The problem I have is that I want to take away the manual rotate process. I can print via Illustrator and just have autorotate slicked and it altematically rotates the page to fit. This button is not available in the print dialogue box in InDesign so each time I have to print I have to choose the rotation based on the page I am printing. I am not printing to a printer. TO PDF. Basically the autorotate button does not existing in InDesign. Looking for a script I suppose.

Sounds to me like you're Printing to PDF using a script to batch process this? Am I right?

If so - I don't recommend printing to PDF.

There's a free script here - Free script Batch convert/export InDesign documents | Peter Kahrel

This will batch export your indesign files to a PDF.

Once you have all your files in PDF - you can print them using Acrobats feature.

If you need all your files to export to a single PDF - then you can always use an InDesign book - add all your files to the book - and in the Book Panel you can select to export the Book to PDF (have no documents selected or all the documents, if you only have 1 document selected you only have the option to export that 1 document, silly, I know!)

You will want to turn off automatic page numbering and things like that prior to importing the InDesign files into a book.
