So the question here is, why am I getting this error message?

Funny thing - I get that message too, but only when I'm not making a pdf at all. If I switch from InDesign to Photoshop, with nothing open in InDesign, I will rarely see a pdf export progress bar of some kind, then that very message. It's annoying, but... eh, nothing is perfect. I should count my blessings that I don't experience 99.99% of the problems I've read about on these forums.
