In the past few days, a stationary phantom box has appeared on every document, both old and new.
I can't find any way to get rid of it.

Have you looked on the parent pages?
Try holding down your Cntl-shift or Cmd-shift and clicking on it.
Also, expand your layer in the Layer panel. Showing the collapsed layer doesn't do anything.

Hi Scott,
If it isn't an object frame, then maybe one of your 65 panels is drawing an empty region and failing to completely load. If so, that would indicate a reset of caches would be in order. Cache corruption generally is equal to visual interface problems. Try a reset and see if it clears up. More detail on how to reset InDesign preferences.
