Bug InDesign: navigating pages causes crash

New Here ,
May 31, 2018 May 31, 2018

Ciao a tutti!

Grazie

Have you tried trashing your preferences and caches? Reinstalling wouldn't necessarily remove the preferences.

Thanks Rob for your answer!

How can I trash preferences and caches?

I agree with Rob,  trash the caches & preferences first,  if you're still having that problem,  we'll go from there.

Hi Francesco,

what is your exact version of InDesign on what OS ?

I can remember a bug where specific colors of page labels lead to a crash with an earlier version of InDesign. Could be CS6…

Regards,
Uwe

Can you create another user on your Apple Computer? If you do and it works with no problem then we know it is your preferences on your original user. If it has the same issue then we know there is a problem system or application issue. Another item to look at is running third-party programs. They may also create havoc when updating.

Can you share the InDesign file? Just the ID file, and not the placed assets

Thanks Uwe, the version of OSX is 10.11.6 and the version of InDesign 13.1. I'm afraid the color of the thumbnails pages may be the problem but I can not delete them because as soon as I access the "pages" window it crashes!

Don't think that's the problem. First it would be a problem with a custom made color, second that issue was fixed some versions ago. Sorry. Have no further clue for you…

Uwe

How can I tell if the problem are linked images? I submitted more than 250!!!

You could try moving the document to a different folder so the placed images are missing and see if that solves the crashing while navigating. Also, have you tried a Save As to IDML? Sounds like the file will open.

I agree with Rob Day.

That said,  roughly how large are the images roughly? I know at work, I'll work on Auto or grocery ads that other artists would work on and navigating the pages would crash InDesign, but in doing research, it was because a few images were like 30"x40" at 200dpi, when the image really should have been about 1"X2" tops at that DPI
