Please tell us what operating system (exactly) you're running. Please tell us (exactly) what InDesign version you're using. How big is the file?
The safest thing would be to move it to a different location, like your Desktop, for a few days to see if it has any effect before you delete it. Worst case, if it causes a crash or something else, put it back.
