Hi, I'm working on an API for a client. Each call is its own file, and I assemble them into a book using the ID book window. I've done this type of thing many times.
What's different for me now is that there are so MANY files in the book window -- close to 300. This is far too many files to display even in a long book window on screen. I'm not dealing with a five-chapter manual, here.
I would like to print the contents of the book window as a list (PDF, printer, CSV, whatever), so that I can get an overview of what I have and the order in which I have it. There does not seem to be a way to print the contents of this window, however, from the hamburger menu, only to print out the book proper in various ways. I'm not ready for that, yet (and I know how to do it).
Any suggestions for getting a list of the book files out of the book window and into some kind of document where I can examine and annotate them? I could print the file directory from Windows, but the directory contains other additional files, and the ID files are in alphabetic or timestamp or size order, not the order I have them placed in the Book window.
Thanks for any help.

It's a great idea, and now I want it, too!
You can put in a feature request to the engineers at Adobe InDesign Feedback .
Put the link back here so others will see it and vote on it. Sadly, it does not exist within the structure of InDesign.
Possibly someone has or could write a script that would do this. Most scripters want to be paid for their work.

I took your advice, Jane-e, and put in a feature request here: Print the contents of the book window – Adobe InDesign Feedback
I'm going to mark your response as correct, even though the feature doesn't currently exist because your response is factually accurate -- but hopefully not for long. Thanks.

Just checked -- no, I can't copy-and-paste the contents of the book window. That would have been an acceptable substitute, but not allowed. -j
