Adobe InDesign CC v 13.0 - macOS 10.9 - 10.13
I feel like this was a previously fixed bug in an older version, but may well be back with the latest 2018 update.
After upgrading InDesign to v 13.0, we are now not longer able to open a copy of files in use, neither duplicate the file in Finder.
When we try to open a copy we get this error message: “Cannot open file [filename.indd]. The file [filename.indd] is incompatible with Adobe InDesign (Error code: 14).”
When we try to duplicate the file, we get this error message: “The operation can't be completed because the item [filename.indd] is in use.”
I assume this is a bug from Adobe, and that it will be fixed, but does anyone experienced the same problem and found a workaround?
Thanks,
Martin Foster, UK

I had there same issue, which seems partly fixed with the CC Indesign 2018 upgrade released a couple of days ago (running 13.01). Now I can't 'save' to the server, have to 'save as' a new version. The original can only be deleted on the server, not from the client Mac, as it reports as locked.
Still not quite there yet on this issue.

Hi Sanyamt
View these in order…
1 open CC2018 Indesign doc
2 View page
3 Add extra page
4 Hit Apple-S to save document, which should be seamless but now causes this save window to pop up. Usually this only happens when upgrading the Indesign to newer version, which is NOT the case.
5 Attempting to overwrite the original file
6 Have to ‘save as’
7 Attempting to delete original file, its NOT open or being used.
Also attached is the original Indesign file and the save as version.
I did have the error code 4, started last week after Indesign crashed a few times on one page. After I saved these documents they would not open with error 4 codes even from my desktop, had to close and open Indesign which cleared that problem, but the 'save as’ problem seems to be a repeatable condition now.
FYI, I am a graphic designer using Macs since 1990, switched from Quark to Indesign 12 years ago. I know this is very wrong and not working correctly. My Mac is running High Sierra 10.13.1 Server is running El Capitan 10.11.6
Let me know if you want more info.
Thanks
Charles

Seeing a similar issue since upgrading to CC2018 with files stores on a Windows Server 2008 R2 share.
Seems to be leaving files "open" on the server. If I close them on the server then they can be accessed normally, but this is not a practical solution for a workflow in a busy shop.

Also seeing this problem. One user will use "Save As" menu item to make a copy of a working file. The result is a file that nobody else can open, duplicate, delete, or change the name on. If that same user uses the "Save A Copy" menu item, the file is readable/usable by others.
Users are on MacOS High Sierra (10.13.3), server is MacOS Sierra (10.12.6), using SMB (smb://server.address).
Removing xattributes on the server via CLI (xattr -cr filename) does not change the behavior of the "Save As" generated file. Propagating permissions across the entire file share does not seem to change the behavior either. Both the "Save As" and the "Save A Copy" files have the same owner/group/world permissions.
