CC Libraries freeze in InDesign

New Here ,
Aug 30, 2021 Aug 30, 2021

I have been running into this problem for about a month now. Occassionaly when I am using InDesign I notice that my CC Libraries freezes. I will initially be able to use my libraries and place items, but eventually it freezes and looks as though the whole CC Libraries is a blurry jpg image (see attached photo) instead of the normal looking CC Libraries side panel. This issue seems to arrise in InDesign when I left click a placed object from my CC Libraries to edit original in Illustrator. Once I save the original file in Illustrator to update it in InDesign, and then go back to InDesign, then my CC Libraries in InDesign are frozen as I described above. The only way I have found to fix the issue is to save my work, completely exit InDesign, and then reopen the application.  I am working from a 2015 Macbook Pro running MacOS Catalina, if that's helpful.

Are you sure this isn't a network (internet connectivity) issue?

I am certain it is not an internet issue.

I don't use CC libraries for philosophical reasons, but soince this seemingly responds to restarting ID, try resetting the prefs: Reset InDesign Preferences and Other Troubleshooting

Hi @Tamara Kitchen & @marie_1962,

I'm sorry to hear you're running into the same CC Libraries freeze. Could you confirm which version of InDesign and macOS you're currently using? Please also try signing out of the Creative Cloud Desktop app, then sign back in and test to see if the issue clears.

If the problem continues, a short screen recording of the behavior would be really helpful for us to review. In the meantime, I'd suggest trying these steps to refresh your Creative Cloud components:

• Close all Adobe applications
• Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to remove the Creative Cloud Desktop application, CCLibrary, and CoreSync ( https://adobe.ly/4mkYJCc )
• Reinstall the Creative Cloud Desktop app ( https://adobe.ly/43fQrCS )
• Launch InDesign and check the Libraries panel again

If the issue persists even after that, try launching InDesign in Safe Mode (Windows / macOS) and see if the behavior changes. This will help isolate whether the freeze is caused by any background processes.

Let me know how it goes.

Abhishek

Hi-- I am running 20.4.1 on Sequoia 15.5--I belive the issues started when I updated to this OS but it might have been with an InDesing update. I can't remember sorry.... I have tried refreshing my InDesign preferences and that did not work. The library tends to work for a little while, the freezes up like its an image. You can even stretch the CC Library window and it distorts! I tried logging out of CC and back in just now. Not sure if that fixed it. I will reply again to let you know. Thank you.

The log in and out did not work. I hesitate to do this -- will I lose my libraries?

• Close all Adobe applications
• Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to remove the Creative Cloud Desktop application, CCLibrary, and CoreSync
• Reinstall the Creative Cloud Desktop app
• Launch InDesign and check the Libraries panel again

Hello @marie_1962,

After checking if all of your libraries are synced online at the portal (https://adobe.ly/456f05S), you can safely use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to remove the Creative Cloud Desktop app, CCXProcess, and CCLibraries and then reinstall.

Feel free to reach out if you have more questions or need assistance. We'd be happy to help.

I'm looking at the links you sent and this is way over my head/out of my comfort zone. I'm sorry but I can't follow these directions.... too complex. I do not think this is an issue specifically on my end but with the software. Hopefully there will be an update with a fix soon. CROSSING FINGERS

I'm sorry, but "have you tried turning it off and on again" is not a solution when the problem is "i have to constantly turn it off and on again for it to work". Does Adobe have a more comprehensive solution for this obviously pervasive problem beyond lip service? It's causing a severe slowdown in my work at a large operation which relies on CC Libraries and we are seriously considering alternatives due to this issue. Thanks

Hello @easygoing_solution7783,

I completely agree that having to repeatedly restart the app is not ideal. Would you mind trying the following steps (if not done already) and checking if it helps:

  • Close all Adobe applications
  • Remove the Creative Cloud Desktop application, CCLibrary, and CoreSync using the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool (https://adobe.ly/4g8WyyO)
  • Reinstall the Creative Cloud Desktop application (https://adobe.ly/3HZPgRj)
  • Relaunch InDesign

Also, try running InDesign under a different administrator account (Windows / macOS) and share your observations.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Can confirm was happening before the Sequoia OS and prior to INDD 20.1. I am completely up to date on all versions of everything and this is the most annoying issue I've dealt with.

@default8xrtrlmkgccf it is still happening 4 years later - today is 09/23/25, I guess no solution as of today. Your description of the issue is perfect, it is like the library becomes a JPG image and it stretches the "image" into a very pixelated view. It is not a network issue and it is not a computer issues, it was happening before my computer was reimaged last week and it is still happening. Very frustrating, I have to restart the program right in the middle of a job (when I try to use the library). Running Sequoia 15.7 - Any solutions?

Hi @St3rling_Silv3r,
Thanks for reaching out, and we understand how frustrating it could be. Could you please confirm which version of InDesign you're currently using, and also let us know if you're seeing the same behavior in other Creative Cloud apps or just InDesign?

It would also be good to try signing out of the Creative Cloud Desktop app and signing back in to check if that helps. If the problem still persists, could you confirm if you had a chance to try the suggestions shared in the earlier response by Anubhav, like reinstalling the Creative Cloud components using the Cleaner Tool?

If not, please try and let us know the outcome.

We will try our best to investigate the issue.

Thanks,

Harshika

Hello Harshika! Thank you for your response. As I mentioned in my comment, the computer was doing this before my computer was reimaged last week, meaning the computer was completely wiped clean and everything had to be resinstalled, and it is still doing it after the computer was reimaged/reinstalled.

So to answer your question, yes, all the apps had to be resinstalled and yes, I have completely logged out of Creative Cloud and signed back in. I did not use the cleaner tool as I am not familiar with it and also because the computer was reimaged just a few days back. InDesign version is 20.5 - I have only encountered this behavior in InDesign so far.

Hello @St3rling_Silv3r,

Thanks for sharing the details. Could you confirm if you have any firewall/antivirus installed, and if yes, temporarily disabling it to see if it helps? Also, check if InDesign behaves this way after rebooting your computer in Safe Mode (macOS) and when connected to specific WiFi/LAN connections and share your observations.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Jumping back into this. I have no firewall or antivirus installed. I still continue to have the same issue in InDesign with the color library freezing and turning into an image.
