Hi all,
I have two guides that divide my page into four areas. I want to create a grid inside to bottom right.
Apparently, I could do it manually, but wondering if there is a way to have the accuracy and options that the "Create Guides" feature gives you...
Best,
P.

If you want a grid of guides out of your rectangle, then I suggest a two-step process:
1. Use the MakeGrid.jsx script that you can access in your Scripts panel:
2. Then use the AddGuides.jsx script:
Finally remove the objects that MakeGrid.jsx has done.

Uwe

Hi pariss99445668 ,
what kind of grid would that be?
A grid of guides? A grid of strokes? A grid of rectangles or squares?

Uwe

Sorry, yes, a grid of guides. Similar to one one can create with the "create guides" feature.

Hi there.
Can you create custom guides that do not extend to the page or spread limits in Indesign, just like in Illustrator?
The answer is no. (Would be cool though)
Can you fake it?
The answer is yes...
Create a layer - let's call it "guides" - and assign Cyan as layer color.
Which basically means that when creating frames on this layer, the edges will be colored in cyan, which is the default guides color (you can change that if you want to).
Then - as described by Uwe, use Makegrid script in order to create your grid of frames. Make sure you use the Rectangle tool with no fill, no stroke. You don't need the Rectangle Frame cross, right?
Lock your "guides" layer and make sure that "Smart guides" are ON, that "Snap to document grid" is OFF and that "Hide frame edges" is OFF too.
You can also adjust the Smart guides preferences in Preferences > Guides and pasteboard. You might not want the center of the frames to be magnetic, nor the smart dimensions or spacing.
Et voilà ...
