Cross References Between Files

I got a project today and the customer is having a major problem with it. Somewhere along the line the cross references from one file are linked to another file. I didn't know this was even possible.

I was given 2 files, a working file (2P) and the previous file (1P). When I open the 2P file and check the cross references, the 1P file automatically opens and the Cross References appear to be from the endnotes in the 2P file to the source in the text of the 1P file. I can't delete the cross references because then the endnote page numbers are all the current page numbers they're currently on.

Is there anything that can be done?

(Using CC17 on a Mac)

Are you saying that the x-refs are pointing to an earlier version of the same document?

You should be able to double-click the Xref (in the cross references panel) and change the Document popup menu to the current document… maybe?
