What you have should work fine for data merge in InDesign. Just save it as a .csv or .txt file and you can use it in InDesign.

It seems that your InDesign table showed on screenshot is from another part of original table. Could you kindly show the lines Code 38... Code 42 in original (excel) one?

After looking at this, I'm wondering why you're even using Data Merge. Just place the table using File > Place and you could keep it as an excel spreadsheet file. You can even link the .xsl spreadsheet to the InDesign document so that the ID doc updates if the spreadsheet is ever modified. You'd want to make sure and use table styles though to retain the formatting.

Perhaps idjev is doing a single record data merge. And from screen capture in post #6, only one record (Three-seat sofa) is displayed in end result, as opposed to both (Three-seat sofa) and (Two-seat sofa) displayed.

Actually, it's better here to distribute the content to different lists and import them as linked files like Chad suggests, then you can apply the Table style to get the needed appearance. Data Merge is not very good way here. You don't have to place the fields as stack like on your screenshot (and like it looks in the panel), you can place them side by side. But all fields together make 1 record (1 line), and to compose several records in one table is much more difficult task.
