I'm trying to figure out how to do the data merge with place cards. I've attached a screenshot of what needs to be filled out but I can't quite seem to figure it out.
When I import the CSV and apply it, there's always a "first name" and "last name" that appears and it also repeats the first name twice?
I'm exporting from Google sheets so I wonder if that's the issue?
Hope someone can help! I have to input 180 names...each page is a card (hopefully that information helps)
In your csv/excel file, duplicate the names twice and title the duplicate names something else like this:
Then, in InDesign, it will look like this.

Are they single cards, 2-up, and intended to be cut apart?
In any case, you can only have a single set of place holders. Else you will get what you are describing.

I’m guessing that it is folded, as in a “tent card”… A random example:

I ran it the way you pointed out and it turned out like this... and created 4 different files?

Notice how my image showed what was going on in InDesign’s Data Merge panel, and the source .CSV file? Please provide more detail on your setup. I think the issue is how you are working with the data set and fields.

I need some more information. Your cards have the first name and last name placeholder on each card twice so I would expect the first name and the last name to appear twice. Can you describe what you're hoping to achieve?

Stephen Marsh is correct. I need to have them tented. Indeed the first name and last name appears twice. I need to make 180 tented place cards (with 180 different names) and both sides need to have the same information.
