endless font list

My InDesign font list shows every font I've ever used in the program, NOT just the fonts in the document at hand, nor is it every font I've ever installed. I'm using InDesign CC 2018 and Suitcase 19.05, with its plugins. So fonts are installed into Suitcase, NOT on the system. While I appreciate having the fonts I need activated, scanning an increasingly lengthy list is annoying to say the least. I've cleared font caches with Suitcase; it doesn't help. Is this an InDesign problem? A supposedly helpful feature?

why don't you just deactivate the fonts from suitcase, if you do that. they will not show in the font menu.

I deactivated everything; now InDesign won’t respond. I tried to reply on line but can’t.
