Error18

New Here ,
Apr 18, 2025 Apr 18, 2025
Hello there, I am trying to export a Indesign file and, while everything seems normal in the process, a window pops up saying there was an error, specifically Error 18….have you ever experienced or are you currently having such an issue? Do you have any suggestion?
Thanks a lot for your help, we have been struggling with this since yesterday, it’s not a matter of device nor internet connection (even tho this error seems to be related to the status of the connection, my wi-fi works well), maybe something related to our adobe account? I have no clue honestly!

Let me know what you think, have a lovely day!

E.

Hello @Editors32564555jl7l,

Could you share more details, like the version of the OS/InDesign installed, the folder location where you are trying to export and if InDesign behaves this way with new files as well, so I can better assist you.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Anubhav

Hello! The InDesign version is 20.2 and the operating system is Sequoia 15.3.1. The folder is on my desktop and the issue comes up regardless of the file, new or old, when the publishing process is at 99%, then "Error 18" screen pops up. Thanks you!

Hello Anubhav, can you please help on this one? After 4 days the issue is exactly the same, no updates on my side. Let me know at your convenience, thank you! E.

Hi @Editors32564555jl7l,

Thanks for all the info so far! Could you please try signing out of the Creative Cloud Desktop App, restarting your machine, and then signing back in before testing the Publish Online feature again?

Also, I’d recommend checking out this thread where a few users faced the same Error 18 and shared what worked for them:

Let me know how it goes after trying these steps.

Abhishek

Thanks Abhishek, I created a new account from scratch and everything went fine...so I guess it's an issue with my specific account? What should I do now with the troubled account? It'd be better for me to still use that one, how shall I proceed?

Hello @Editors32564555jl7l,

Thanks for confirming. Would you mind trying to manually reset InDesign's preferences under your original account and checking if it helps:

For macOS

• Close all Adobe applications.

• Go to the following locations

• ~/Library/Caches

• ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe

• ~/Library/Preferences

• Rename Adobe InDesign, com.adobe.indesign and Adobe InDesign 20 Settings folders to Adobe InDesign.old, com.adobe.indesign.old and Adobe InDesign 20 Settings.old

• Launch InDesign from the Creative Cloud.

Note: Location starting with this "~" sign indicates the User Library, which is hidden. So, you need to copy & paste the exact path in spotlight search or from Finder Menu > Go > Go to Folder > Paste the location in the dialog box like this:

Disclaimer: Please note that renaming preferences folders will remove all the custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also save a backup of the folders in case you want to. The location is mentioned above.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Anubhav

Are you selecting the Publish Online facility – error 18 is, I believe, to do with a network issue?

What do you mean by network issue? I think it's not something wi-fi related since I tried in multiple locations with different internet connections.

When I publish online there isn't a proper format, you get a link and that's it

Right, so we've established you're using InDesign's Publish Online facility.

Does the Publish Online upload issue happen with just one document or all such documents?

(if you have only one document, create an addition simple test doc to see if the same issue occurs with that as well)
Does the original doument have large size images /videos?

It actually happens for all the documents, new and old. Yes, in each documents there are several gifs/videos and images but the error 18 occurs also for empty blank documents with nothing in them.

Has this just started happening – I mean were you previously able to upload documents successfully and view them but recently you haven't been able to?

Adobe Community Expert, Ian Sayers, posted this abouy error 18 the other year, it might be worth checking out these suggestions:
