I have a client who wants separate files with just the metadata from several projects. Is there a way to export that directly?

Thanks.

What does this have to do with InDesign EPUB? What kind of metadata do they want exported (I'm assuming from InDesign)?

It's not a built-in feature. It would probably require a script. You might ask in the InDesign Scripting forum:

It's the EPUB metadata they want. Sorry that wasn't clear.

Hi, Valerie.

There are several options available to you. Calibre offers a feature (ebook-meta.exe/fetch-ebook-metadata) to retrieve the metadata from a file. There's also a tool called EPUB Metadata Editor, which does only the one thing. For a more automated way of doing it, you can use the Javascript epub.js. And, of course, you can always easily unzip the EPUB itself and copy the metadata from the .OPF file.

Let us know if any of these gives you what you need.

Cheers,

Pariah

Thanks, Pariah. I think if I need a longer-term solution, I'll pursue those. In the meantime, the client said a spreadsheet would be fine, so I just copied and pasted the data for their half-dozen or so books.
