File conversion problem

New Here ,

I am using InDesign CC and trying to open a file created in a previous version of ID. The file is a book chapter and when I attempt to open it, the file shows up with much smaller font size than it is supposed to have. The correct font is being used and the file says it is at 10 pt, but it looks like it is about 6 pt. The text boxes end in the correct place, but there is very large spaces between the words since the font is so small. Here is what it looks like:

Any idea what is happening here and how to correct it?

Do you still have the earlier version of InDesign in which this file was created?

  • Is it possible to Save that InDesign file as IDML (or Export).
  • Then in your new version of InDesign open up the IDML file and see if the same issue occurs.

See if that fixes things.

Are paragraph styles applied to the text? Can you see any style overrides?

Was able to open it in InDesign CS5 on another computer and it looked fine. Copied that over as the IDML version and it still isn't working. Different problem, but there still seems to be a major font issue. Paragraph styles were applied and there were style overrides, and I tried altering them and that didn't change anything.
