Trying to upload my InDesign epub book to smashwords and getting this notification: File 'META-INF/encryption.xml' in EPUB not listed in manifest!
Your .epub file is missing one or more elements in its manifest. A complete manifest is required for distribution to Apple. Here's how Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EPUB) defines "Manifest":"The manifest element lists all the files contained in the package. Each file is represented by an item element, and has the attributes id, href, media-type. All XHTML (content documents), stylesheets, images or other media, embedded fonts, and the NCX file should be listed here."
Anyone know how to resolve this?

This seems to be an issue with embedded fonts. Export the epub without embedding the fonts. See the following discussion

Hi Joyce,
How did you export without embedded fonts? I'm having the same exact problem you had. My epub passed the validator but Smashwords is giving me the same error message you got.
Thanks!

I see that you had already read the post that I mentioned. Well to not embed fonts you will have to export as "EPUB (Reflowable)" then you will have the checkbox in the HTML/CSS section to toggle the font embedding. See the screenshot below

Thanks so much! Unfortunatly, I can't change this book to reflowable because of the content, but it's good to know this informaton for a future publication.

If you're exporting to fixed EPUB (FXL), InDesign does not give the option not to embed fonts.
Restructure your book as a reflowable format and export without embedded fonts. Both FXL and font embedding (actually, font specification at all) are problem magnets.
If not that, you may need to review the fonts you're using. All must be licensed or otherwise available for encrypted embedding in the EPUB file. (You can't just include font files when the fonts are licensed or copyrighted; a version specifically encrypted for use in that document must be created on the fly. If a font is not authorized for such use, it won't encrypt or embed properly.)

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, I can't change this book to reflowable because of the content. There's alot of images that are necessary to the text, and will be really messed up in the reflowable format.
The fonts I'm using are: Arial regular, Arial italics, Verdana bold, Avenir medium, Avenir black. Are these fonts a problem?

Also, besides the question on the fonts I'm using that I just posted, I'm wondering what these distinctions mean in the font list. Some have two T's (guessing that means True Type) and others just have a big letter O. Yet others say O svg or var. There are also ones that have a cloud symbol with a check mark. Is there an explanation of these somewhere so I know what fonts not to choose for epub creation?

I'd say the problem lies in there somewhere, but I am hazy on the intersection of things like Typekit fonts and EPUB export. Make sure all of your fonts are local/system ones (sometimes you see a mix of local/cloud fonts for no good reason). I'm looking at the Avenir set, with nothing better to go on.
A quick screenshot of that font list might help sort out the issues.

Do you happen to know if wingdings can cause problems? I have some inserted for the begining of some key points.

For what the icons used for different fonts means, look at the following article
