Hi,
Does anyone know why some fonts won't appear in InDesign even though they are in my Fonts folder on Local Disk? I also tried putting a copy in the Fonts folder in InDesign, but they still don't appear in the program.
Thanks,
Jen

If they really aren't there, most likely either ID doesn't like the way they are made (ID is very fussy about fonts), or they have some problem, as with Arial Narrow on Windows (been discussed to death).
But are you sure they aren't there? Scroll through the list and look under the family as well as the foundry name. Sorting can be weird. Also, Cyrillic and Asian fonts are in sections by themselves at the end of the list, and after those are fonts that ID is unable to classify, so take a look at the bottom, too.

Hi,
Yep, I looked through the entire list and it's not there. It's actually Arial Bold regular (italics works) and Arial Narrow is working fine. Funny thing is that it was working just fine before the computer got a virus and then I got a new computer and installed the program (it also doesn't work in Photoshop but did before).

Hi Buko,
I also tried that and it still doesn't work. I was reading some other font issue discussions and saw someone talking about cleaning out the font cache, but when I looked, I don't even have a font cache folder. I also asked a co-worker if she has Arial Black showing in her InDesign, and I found out that she has the opposite issue where the regular shows up but not the italics, but she does have the italics font file too. Since it doesn't appear, she never used it and therefore didn't even know it wasn't showing up when it should be.
Thanks,
Jen

It would probably be good at this point to tell us if you are using Windows or Mac.
Have you deleted all your Adobefnt##.lst files, where ## is a number?

Do a file search for adobefnt*.lst (that's a lowercase L, as in list) and delete all that you find. DO NOT DELETE the Adobefnt.db file. These files tell the various applications what fonts are installed, but occasionally become damaged. They'll be rebuilt automatically as required.

Hi Everyone,
Thank you for all of your responses. I apologize for the late comment; I left work early on Friday and didn't get to try deleting the Adobe Font lists. Interestingly enough though, yesterday (Monday) the Arial Black regular showed up in both Photoshop and InDesign but in the list under Arial. Arial Black still only shows the italic option. I swear though that when I scanned the font lists in both programs to make sure they weren't out of order some place else, that it wasn't there, and even in InDesign, it highlighted my text to tell me I was missing the font. When I opened the same file yesterday, it no longer showed the highlight. I tried restarting the computer on Friday too though, so I don't know what the difference was between Friday and Monday, but the Arial Black regular is there now, so I'll just go along with it.
Thank you!
Jen
