Fonts not displating correcting when printed

New Here ,
Oct 23, 2025 Oct 23, 2025

I have a font issue that is only a problem when the file is printed to PDF. I have confirmed the fonts are correct in the InDesign file, however when the file is printed to PDF, the fonts do not display correctly. The font we are having an issue with is Helvetica Neue LT Com. The font issue is within some but not all .ai figures in a document.

I have confirmed this is not a result of different PDF viewers. I have checked in multiple PDF viewers and the font appears incorrect in all PDF viewers.  Please let me know if you have any solutions or thoughts on what this issue could be.

So, you're placing AI files in InDesign and the font issue is showing up in those graphics? Make sure when you save the AI file you save with the default settings for PDF compatibility and when you export the InDesign file (NEVER print to PDF) you choose PDF/X-4.

Hi @wes_5648,

Sorry to hear about the font issue you're encountering. Could you please confirm which version of InDesign and operating system you’re using? Also, let me know how you're creating the PDF, are you exporting it directly from InDesign via File > Export > Adobe PDF (Print), or using a different method?

Try exporting the file again using File > Export > Adobe PDF (Print) and make sure the 'Embed Fonts' option is enabled in the PDF settings. It would also help to check if the same issue appears after packaging the file and reopening it. Ref: https://adobe.ly/4hv5saG
If possible, please share a screenshot showing the difference between the InDesign document and the printed or exported PDF.

Looking forward to your update.

Abhishek

Thanks! I have confirmed that we are following these settings and still having the apparent font display issues when printed to PDF.

Stop printing to PDF or clarify that you are exporting properly.
