Getting data merge to move to the second record on one page

I have a simple design which is A5 landscape so I can get 2 up on an A4 sheet.

I want to personalise each design and have a data file with Forename and Surname.

If I choose "multiple records" in the mail merge box I get all the records merged but with the same name on both designs on the page, so the system only steps onto the next record when a new page is created.

Is there a way to get the data file to index on to the next record on the same page? This seems so simple I feel I must be missing something.

Place only one instance of the merge fields on the (parent or main) page.

The data merge panel options on spacing will dictate how many up will be merged per page.

Thank you Daniel, that is brilliant. It was putting it only once on the page - I was putting the second image on as well. I knew it was simple. I was sure I had done this before and just couldn't reproduce it. Clearly the grey matter is starting to wear away!
