Hello guys,
i have a very annoying problem with my .eps files (math equations exported from Word document with Mathtype) on my Mac studio M2 (running Sonnoma 14.3.1). If i import them into InDesign document or open those .eps files in Illustrator symbol/glyphs disappear.
I have tried same process (Word -> MathType export to eps -> place eps files into Indesign document) on my coworkers PC and they show up fine, BUT when i opened them in illustrator where glyph is suppose to be i get the X mark for missing glyph.
Screenshot from PC, the one with link not missing (eps was untouched just placed into InDesign). You can also see the one eps (that one has been opened in illustrator) below is missing symbol for multiply.
Screenshot what happens if i open it in illustrator on PC (on Mac there is just empty space)
If i cant open them in illustrator to edit them that i can live with since i can edit in Word and then export, but if i don't touch them after export and just place them into InDesign on my Mac and symbols/glyphs disappear that is a big problem, since this means i have to edit them in illustrator 1 by 1 and type the glyphs by hand again.
Did anyone have a similar problem or have an idea how to solve this issue. I am attaching one .eps file if you have the same problem as me.
Any help or advice would be really appriciated. Thank you in advance!

What happens if you put them in the Distiller and import then the PDFs?
I suppose that T1 fonts have een used.
Avoid EPS in the future.

Mathtype only has eps, gif and wmf export options. That worked but now converted pdf files have huge artboard with small equation in it. If i open pdf in illustrator i get the same unknown glyp as shown in my second screenshot. I guess i need to find a way how to batch crop pdf to object size. But if i want to edit them i will have to insert correct glyph by hand.

A PDF must not be opened in Illustrator. THis program is not a common PDF editor.
You can place the converted PDF in INDesign. In he option you can select artwork to avoid the huge artbiard.

Hi,
This is an issue I ran into before and has been mentionned in this community forum (Re: InDesign and Mathtype - Adobe Community - 14045426).
The issue is that MS Word does not outline the text before exporting to eps. Have you tried to open the eps file in illustrator? if that remains stable, you could outline the text there, before importing in InDesign, I know this is an extra step, but the other option is to take screenshots of MS Word as jpg/png and import that.

This was really helpful since i found out from article that on PC you can edit those eps files directly in Mathtype from Indesign. Right click on eps - Edit with... choosing Mathtype it just opens the equation in mathtype and when im done editing i just need to save and update link.
Problem now is that Wiris hasn't made Mathtype for Mac, its only available as an Add-in in word and not like Mathtype 7.4 as a desktop app for PC.

Do you have font used by WORD on PC - installed on your Mac as well?
When you export EPS from WORD on a PC - there is extra info in the file about baseline - that can be used by script to correctly reposition equation in text - in bulk of course.
