Hello guys,
I'm making a summary in InDesign and i had the GREAT idea to make it interactive :). So i did all the button with a normal / hover / click state for every chapter that i needed, and it works fine it goes to the right page etc.
BUT if you move too fast (or not fast enough??) it lags and sticks to a state and doens't go back until you hover on it, or click again. (I'll leave an exemple of what i mean after)
Is there any way to make it lighter maybe? Or maybe less laggy 😞
How is it normaly.
How it should work and look like when you hover one.
How it look likes when it lag :c
Thanks in advance for everyone taking time to help !
PS : Also it lags when i open it in Adobe Acrobat Pro but not in my navigator so i'm confused now.
This effect has never been particularly good and the more you have the worse it gets. My advice is to rethink your project especially since it's not going to work at all on mobile devices and will be highly dependent on the reader application. Most don't support this at all.

Hey
Did you ever get around to leaving this example - document to try out?
Did you get it resolved already?

Your documents works fine with Acrobat for Windows.
This is an Acrobat for Mac issue, you should try this:
Acrobat Pro > Preferences > General, then under "Application Startup" click on the box to activate a check mark for "Enable native OS mode for optimal performance." Then press "OK" and restart the Acrobat Application.

Hello Jr !
Well i'm working on windows 11, and my friends that i made test the documents work on windows 10, so i don't think it's a mac problem. 😞

Sorry, it's a typical bug in the Mac version of Acrobat, that's why I thought of it.

Hover state sticking and lagging with buttons. Has this ID issue been resolved? I feel like I'm missing something here...
It's 2024 and I've designed for a contents tab style menu, but when exported as an interactive PDF the buttons still stick/lag in the hover state. It's drving me nuts.

This is what it looks like when I roll over the buttons from left to right. Some get stuck in the rollover state, some done and some are half and half.

Hey @HLW28817356t9n9,
Thanks for reaching out! I can totally understand how frustrating it must be to deal with the hover state sticking and lagging in your interactive PDF. This issue has been around for a while, and unfortunately, it's still dependent on the reader application (especially on mobile devices and even in Adobe Acrobat). The performance of these interactions can sometimes be inconsistent.
Could you please share the version of InDesign you're using and the details of your operating system? It would also be great if you could share a screen recording of the issue you're facing. If possible, could you also drop the interactive PDF and InDesign file here so we can test it ourselves and investigate further?
Looking forward to your response!
Best,
Abhishek Rao

I answered the original post months ago and no, nothing has changed and nothing is going to change. My advice stands: Stop using buttons in PDFs. They are not reliable even in Acrobat and won't work at all in many third party PDF readers.

The rollover state has been killed off by the advent of touch screens, so it's unlikely that this bug will be fixed as a priority.
