How to create a post card "flipping over" animation

New Here ,

Hello! I have a graphic created in Indesign of a two-sided postcard and my client would like the graphic to be animated to flip over to the back side. Is there a template of a paper flipping over anywhere I could plug a jpeg of my front and back design in? Or is there a simple way to achieve this animation? Thanks!

How are you planning to present/distribute this postcard?

Maybe an animated GIF – it depends how you are going to distribute the animation.

I don't think ID is the tool you want for this. Even the page transitions (for PDFs) don't include a flip like this.

Photoshop to an animated GIF seems to be the straightforward path.

As asked, details of how you plan to display/distribute this will help narrow down the choices. An animated GIF requires a web browser or HTML email display.

You can get this effect by using in5, which is an InDesign plug-in (at extra cost) that produces excellent interactive HTML5 documents. But it may be overkill for your needs.

I'm not even sure the plugin is needed. Lay out the document with the animated GIF and export to HTML with no image conversion. I just did this in about two minutes. Some optimization of size, background etc. is needed, but if it can't be done from within ID, a little HTML/CSS skill goes a long, long way in HTML and EPUB export from ID, doing more than most plugins etc. can do and at no added cost.

But ID is still the wrong tool (IMVHO) if all that's needed is a simple flipping graphic. Export high-res images of each face to JPG and use Photoshop to create the effect and export. It reminds me of the day when Photoshop was used to lay out whole magazines. 🙂
